Update from Wazeeri

17/1/2015

Picture
We invited 16 school coaches and teachers to attend a training session to ensure everyone was coaching NDT in a similar way. This is the same group of schools who are taking part in our BEDARI (Awareness) http://www.bedari.org.pk/ programme.

Netball was about to die in this region and the whole country except very rare institutions so we are very happy to introduce it again.

The group agreed to hold a tournament in January for the 16 schools; they are all girls’ schools and we will work with girls between 13 and 17.

Update from Pakistan

6/1/2014

On 21st December NDT resident coach, Wazeeri, held a netball training camp at the Government Degree College in Fort Abbas. He told us:

“45 teachers participated in this netball orientation camp, mostly were PE teachers and they are from different schools across Fort Abbas. They learn and enjoy the game very much and are keen to start netball in their schools.”

This will mostly be for girls, as they currently do not do any sports at school. In time we aim to develop this into mixed netball in Pakistan.

NDT's arrival into Pakistan

All it takes is one PE teacher and a lot of passion
NDT has achieved so much already in Uganda, India and now Kenya. But last week, out of the blue, something special came along. We received a mail from Muhammad Muzammal Khan Wazeeri. Mr Wazeeri is a sports fanatic through and through, from playing rugby to american football and coaching in schools too. He was keen to do something for the girls in his community. He lives in Fort Abbas of Pakistan, a remote village with lot of restrictions and primitive cultural barriers on girls’ participation in sport.

Mr Wazeeri has been involved with a few people who know netball and a few weeks ago came up with an idea to introduce netball to the one of the girls’ schools. Being a girls sport he thought this could be a way to start, but he knew that convincing the school to get on board would be the biggest challenge. However, that did not deter him. The following week he arrived at the Punjab Public School some 35 km away from Fort Abbas.
