NDT at the U21 England vs Wales match at the Redbridge Leisure Centre

18/3/2012

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Redbridge Leisure Centre, in Ilford, Essex and opening of new netball courts, an afternoon of netball was held on sunday, the 18th of March, 2012 – the schedule included a match between England U21 and Wales U21; which England won by 50 to 39 goals.

NDT was a part of this event with founder Monica Thandi and India 2011 volunteer coach Sophie Lamont working together to reach out to fans, players and officials.

We have had an amazing result and were assisted in raising funds through our wristies by our young assistants Roxanne Cornwall who is just 8 years old and Lauren Glover who is all of 12!

North Road wins 1st Mbale Tigers - NDT Open Netball Tournament

7/3/2012

North Road Primary school, Mbale was crowned champion of the 1st Mbale Tigers – NDT open after thumping in form arch-rivals Maluku primary school 13-3 to lift the prestigious title. The event that attracted eight schools had two pools with Maluku topping pool A ahead of Busamaga, Trust and Wambwa while North Road was pooled with Namatala, Police and Yoweri primary schools.

The tight semi finals saw Maluku overpower Namatala 9-7 to meet North Road who showed Busamaga an early 9-6 exit. New entrants Yoweri and Trust Primary schools displayed quality netball with both boys and girls aiming for the net with perfect shootouts.

North Road received the trophy amidst cheers and jubilation, while Babra Musaya of Maluku was crowned best female player as Police’s Brian Kwete out smarted his counterparts to be named best male player of the tournament. NDT officials Liz Atonet and Flavia could not hide their joy of seeing the youngsters make their way for the prestigious title and were heard intimating that this year’s Uganda NDT tour slated for this June will be very competitive!

NDT Volunteer Helen Lloyd writes about the recent India Tour

4/3/2012

The Netball Development Trust supports children from the poorest areas of Uganda and India by providing netball coaching to primary school kids…

Helen Lloyd who plays for Ambleside in the Coventry & Warwickshire League sent us this note:

I recently had the opportunity to go to India with recently founded charity The Netball Development Trust, which aims to enrich the lives of young people in some of the poorest areas in the world by helping them to discover the joys of playing netball.
We spent 2 weeks in a rural area of India called Bhubaneshwar, and worked with 4 schools coaching over 500 children during our time there, ending with a fantastic tournament between the schools. We were also lucky enough to experience the wonderful culture that India has to offer.

I am emailing you on behalf of NDT, as they are currently organising a tour to Uganda in June and India in November. If you know of anyone in you club who may be interested in either tour, please forward this to them as it is such a fantastic experience and a real eye opener! Below is a letter from one of NDT’s trustees, and for any more info please feel free to either email me or go to the website!
