“Finally the long awaited Tuesday has come today. Our volunteers have gone out to three primary schools here and the reports from all the stations is that the reception has been phenomenal. We have two volunteers per station, Musa and I play the supervisor role. I have been at Kabkara Primary School today and plan to be at Kibindoi Primary School tomorrow then Machakha on Thursday. Musa has been at Machakha today. Pupil numbers today – Kibindoi 36, Kabkara 40 and Machakha 43.
They are all government schools in rural Kenya each with a total pupil enrolment of about 500.
In fact the numbers could be bigger, all the pupils wanted to be part of the team especially when we were doing the chicken song…! We had to request the teacher to help us get the numbers we had.
These are pics from Kabkara Primary school where I was today
The volunteers are.
1. KABKARA PRIMARY Titus Sarapa (green top) and Peter Wanjala (white shirt).
2. KIBINDOI PRIMARY. Godfrey Titoi and Mark Kerry Obwana.
3. MACHAKHA PRIMARY. Mary Okiru and Amos Buteta.
Supervisors – Musa Munyasia Barasa. Olita Joseph Omekede.
You will see that all volunteers, apart from Mary, are male.
Mary sat for her final secondary school exams last year and currently waiting for her results from the national examinations body. She has been into Netball all through her high school. I was her coach in her final year in school and I asked her to join NDT, she has taken it up very strongly.”
We are so proud of the work these volunteers have done – thank you!
